LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The Community Health Center of Lubbock brought organizations together for its 34th annual needs assessment on Wednesday.
Groups representing education, pediatrics, dental and vision care compared notes on how to better serve Lubbock residents.
Groups share resources and feedback
Councilwoman Christy Martinez-Garcia said the event allows groups to share and learn about each other’s work.
“There’s a little bit of something for any of the groups,” Martinez-Garcia said. “But this is where we get to, like I said, share, but also learn about what the other is doing. So, one, we don’t overlap resources. And two, we can identify, well, this nonprofit is doing this and this one is doing that. And just get really good feedback that they then utilize and share with the others.”
The feedback is intended to improve healthcare access and pool resources.
Helping people access transportation resources
One of the topics discussed was transportation and how people can access resources, possibly through services like Citibus or MyRide Lubbock.
“And in a time where so many of our families are dealing with a very tough economy, it’s a good connection so that when we have maybe that client, we can connect with them,” Martinez-Garcia said. “And also, just to see what needs that we are all experiencing and might be able to offer each other solutions, as well as provide more details about what we do.”
Martinez-Garcia said she wants residents to recognize these nonprofits as advocates for the community.
“I don’t think people realize sometimes the frontline workers are a lot of our nonprofits in this community,” Martinez-Garcia said. “They do so much. They answer the call to so many of the needs. They’re ready to respond at any given moment.”
