  • September 10, 2026

HOUSTON – Federal authorities arrested a 44-year-old Houston immigration attorney. She is charged with mail fraud and making false statements.

Alla Nowowiejski made her initial appearance Wednesday afternoon.

According to an indictment, Investigators say Nowowiejski accepted payments from clients seeking help, then establishing or adjusting their immigration status and applying for work visas. Prosecutors allege she failed to submit the applications or submitted only portions of them.

The indictment also states Nowowiejski gave clients fraudulent documents and case reference numbers tied to unrelated immigration matters, leading the clients to believe their applications were being processed.

If convicted, Nowowiejski faces up to 20 years in federal prison and a maximum fine of $250,000.

The investigation was conducted by the inspectors general offices of the Department of Homeland Security, the U.S. Postal Service, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, and the Harris County Constable’s Office Precinct 1.
