President Donald Trump urged Texas voters to support Republican U.S. Senate nominee Ken Paxton, calling him “the single greatest attorney general you’ve ever had.”

Trump delivered an enthusiastic — and at times unconventional — endorsement of the Republican Senate nominee Wednesday during the Republican Party’s midterm convention in Dallas, praising Paxton’s record while joking about his appearance, clothing, and speaking style.

“We have to elect Ken Paxton,” Trump told the crowd, saying he would return to Texas “twice or three times” if necessary to campaign for the state attorney general.

Trump acknowledged his advisers had cautioned him against repeating jokes he previously made about Paxton.

“Some may not like the way he dresses. I don’t,” Trump said, before adding that Paxton looked “very spiffy” Wednesday.

Trump said some voters might not like the way Paxton talks or looks, but said those considerations were secondary to his performance as attorney general.

“In the history of Texas, he is the single greatest attorney general you’ve ever had and maybe the top attorney general in the whole United States,” Trump said.

“He’s the greatest attorney general in America and he deserves to be your next senator,” Trump added.

Trump also credited Paxton, along with Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott and GOP Sens. Ted Cruz and John Cornyn, with supporting border security efforts and construction of the border wall.

Paxton, meanwhile, used his own convention appearance to draw contrasts with Democrat state Rep. James Talarico, criticizing his opponent’s policies and promoting his “Protecting the Texas Promise” plan, which includes tax and affordability proposals.

Trump’s MAGA Inc. super PAC recently launched a $10 million advertising campaign in the Texas Senate race, its first major expenditure of the 2026 general election.

The two-day Dallas convention was organized by the Republican National Committee to promote GOP candidates and the party’s agenda ahead of November’s elections.
