LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – While the Estacado Matadors (2-0) will try to remain unbeaten, the visiting Snyder Tigers (0-2) will seek their first win since 2024- all happening tonight on “Thursday Night Throwdown”.
The Mats’ offense has been off to an explosive start, averaging 49.5 points per game. During the TNT season opener two weeks ago, Estacado pulled away in the second half to beat Lubbock High 47-13. Last week, the Big E had another high-scoring performance at Sweetwater, holding on for the 52-50 win.
When asked about the momentum gained early this year, EHS head coach Eric Ward says he’s approaching every game with the “1-0” mindset.
“I think it’s the same as week one, it’s the same as every week. We just need to focus on what we want to do. Every week is a new goal, a new task,” he said.
The Tigers are coming off losses to Canyon and San Angelo Lake View and are looking for a major victory they can build on going forward. During this summer’s “Pigskin Preview”, Snyder head coach Anthony Gonzales says he believes he has the talent to compete in big games.
“We’re excited about the group we have out here, we’re excited to see them play football this year,” he said. “We’re going to be challenged and challenged right off the bat.”
Kickoff set for 7 p.m. at PlainsCapital Park. The game is airing on KJTV 34.1 (Fox34), Optimum 11, DirecTV 11, UVERSE 1011, and SIMULCAST KJ-CD 32.1.
