Kroger is planning a new grocery store for a city that sits on the southeastern edge of Dallas-Fort Worth.

The grocer is set to build a Kroger in Crandall with construction set to begin in the coming months, according to John Votava, spokesperson for the company in an email.

The total investment will be between $35 million and $40 million when its complete, Votava said. Kroger aims to break ground soon and open sometime in 2027.

“We are excited to be building a Kroger Marketplace in Crandall,” Votava said.

It’s a sizable addition for Crandall, which is a relatively small city in North Texas with less than 4,000 people, according to census data for 2020. It’s east of Seagoville and within Kaufman County.

Kroger, which opened a site in Little Elm earlier this year, continues to invest in North Texas as it looks to tap into the dynamic population growth and economic vitality of the region. It’s also competing against others that are opening new stores, including H-E-B and Costco.

The new store in Crandall, which will be just under 100,000 square feet, is slated to be around the intersection of FM 741 and FM 2757/Sunrise Boulevard.
