Dallas-Fort Worth could see some much needed rain Friday, as drought conditions worsen and high temperatures persist.

The National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office said in its Thursday afternoon forecast that non-severe thunderstorms could linger through Friday afternoon in Dallas-Fort Worth.

Parts of the region saw rain Thursday afternoon and evening, as a storm system approached the region from the northwest.

The weather service forecasts a 20% chance that storms redevelop across portions of North Texas, with thunderstorms possible primarily during the day.

Friday’s high is expected to dip to 99 degrees, but the heat index, or “feels like temperature,” is still expected to reach 106 degrees.

North Texans can also expect to see increased humidity levels, accompanied by some clouds.

The brief reprieve from Dallas-Fort Worth’s hot, dry streak will likely come to an end this weekend, as the weather service expects hot and rain-free weather to return.
