LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Scattered showers and thunderstorms late Thursday morning have been confined to the northern portion of the viewing area. Better coverage is expected as the day goes on, with the best chances of rain occurring this afternoon.
KCBD(KCBD)
Severe weather is unlikely, however a few storms may produce brief strong winds and heavy downpours. An upper-level trough approaching from the north will bring the best chance for storms during the late afternoon hours Thursday. While conditions support some storm development, the associated surface front and wind shear will remain generally weak.

Temperatures Thursday will be a few degrees cooler than recent days, with highs in the mid-to-upper 90s. Storms will taper off by early Friday morning.

Slight storm chance Friday, then hot and dry
Friday will start mostly sunny with dry conditions throughout most of the day. Highs will climb back into the mid-to-upper 90s and low triple-digits as southerly winds return.
KCBD(KCBD)
A weak upper-level disturbance late Friday evening could trigger some isolated storms, but these are not expected to be severe and will dissipate by Saturday morning.

The weekend will turn hot and dry with no rain expected.
Cooler, unsettled conditions return next week
A shift in the weather pattern is expected early next week, bringing cooler temperatures and potentially more unsettled conditions to the area.
