“College GameDay” was in Austin, Texas, on Saturday for the showdown between No. 1 Ohio State and No. 4. Texas. As is tradition, fans brought signs. Much like Nick Saban with Week 1 results, we’re not going to overreact to any of them. LSU showed out last week by making fun of Jayden Daniels and their own coach. This week, fans were mostly focused on booing Ted Cruz as he promoted the Protect College Sports Act.

There were, however, a few signs worth highlighting.

Austin’s own Glen Powell was there as the guest picker, and he inspired at least one sign—a fan made Chad Powers the backup quarterback for Texas. Even a fictional character can’t unseat Arch Manning at this point in the season.

One of the most popular signs in the crowd was this one suggesting Ohio State coach Ryan Day puts ketchup on his brisket. This would be a major faux pas in Texas—or anywhere with good barbecue, really.

The biggest concern with this sign, as with the Chad Powers one above, is whether these are being created using editing software or if they’re being artificially generated, which really goes against the spirit of the tradition.

College GameDay signs are meant to be done by hand—or at least edited on a computer before you head to the print shop. Let’s keep these signs manmade. College football is all about traditions, and making your own sign should be considered a sacred rite when the show rolls into town.
