LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – More than a thousand Mustangs and classic cars departed Lubbock today, hitting America’s most iconic road, Route 66.
The Lubbock Mustang Car Club traveled northwest to the town of Adrian today. It’s the midpoint of Route 66.

A total of 1,215 cars from the club went. They stopped by Cadillac Ranch and Buc-ee’s on the way and ate at Midpoint Cafe. In total, they traveled 345 miles today.
Route 66 centennial
Route 66 is celebrating its centennial year this year. It turns 100 years old on November 11.
The highway ran from Chicago, through Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona, and ended in Santa Monica, California, stretching 2,448 miles.
It was removed from the United States Highway System in 1985, as it was largely replaced by interstate highways.
