SAN ANTONIO – Bexar County sheriff’s deputies are investigating the deaths of two people found with gunshot wounds in what authorities believe may be a domestic violence-related murder-suicide.
Around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, deputies were called to the scene of a reported shooting near the corner of Confluence Creek and Talley Road on the far West Side.
Sheriff Javier Salazar said the call came in around 7:30 p.m. Deputies responded to a home and found two people dead — a woman in her 40s and a man in his 30s. Salazar said both lived in the home.
Salazar said a witness reported the two were “seen and heard having an argument/ domestic disagreement” earlier in the morning. The witness left the residence, was gone through the day and returned to find both people dead from gunshot wounds, Salazar said. Deputies determined they were deceased at the scene.
“We are working it that way as of now,” Salazar said of the case being treated as a murder-suicide, adding that the medical examiner “will ultimately decide.” He said deputies are treating the deaths as a possible domestic violence-related murder-suicide pending the medical examiner’s determination.
Salazar said the county is up to 18 homicides this year, eight of which have been domestic violence-related. He said the county is “usually around half homicides being DV related,” but has “already eclipsed last years homicide rate for all of the county.”
“Domestic violence is something that doesn’t go away, or stop happening all of a sudden,” Salazar said. “If you find yourself in a situation where any amount of DV is happening, get yourself out.” He added, “We see these situations that escalate in frequency and severity.”
