On Saturday, the Kentucky Wildcats volleyball team suffered their second loss of the season, falling to SMU 3-1. That put them up against Houston in their second match of the Paradise Invitational, and the Cats bounced back, sweeping them 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-23).
The Wildcats dominated early on, jumping out to a 20-10 lead in the first set. Then, in the second, they fell behind, but went on a big run to pull away. Houston was strong in the third set, and kept it close, but Kentucky finished off the match.
Morgan Gaerte led the way for the Wildcats with 9 kills and 5 blocks. Lizzie Carr had 8 kills and 5 blocks. Asia Thigpen added 7 kills. Kassie O’Brien was terrific again, with 27 assists, and Kentucky had 8 aces in the match, including 3 by Brooklyn DeLeye and 3 by Molly Tuozzo.
Kentucky’s next match is a big one for them, as they play their rivalry match against Louisville. That will be played on Sunday, Sep. 20 at 3:00 P.M. ET.
