A new life could finally be in store for an abandoned, space-themed McDonald’s concept that closed last year on San Antonio’s Far Westside.
CosMc’s, a small-format, beverage-led McDonald’s spinoff that sought to compete with chains like Starbucks and Dutch Bros, closed its Potranco Road and Grosenbacher Road locations in the summer of 2025 after less than a year of operations.
MySA recently visited the fast-food chain’s former concempt building and observed new construction signs, paint, and scaffolding on site. Meanwhile, a real estate agent who now represents the city’s other former CosMc’s location at 8726 Potranco Road hinted that a new tenant is set to arrive at the old CosMc’s building soon but stopped short of revealing what it is.
“The tenant probably needs to announce it themselves,” listing broker Karen Mitchell said about the property.
The 1,242-square-foot building has sat vacant for some time and is listed for sale on a commercial real estate site for $1.5 million. It’s unclear whether McDonald’s has officially sold the property, as it remains listed as active for sale.
San Antonio’s first CosMc’s opened near Potranco and Grosenbacher Road in August 2024, followed by the other nearby location in October.
McDonald’s announced in May 2025 that it would shut down the experimental concepts. The two locations closed within months of each other.
The short-lived restaurant chain sold items like frappes, refreshers and sweet and savory small bites, which McDonald’s says still influence its regular store menu today.
