Texas football coach Steve Sarkisian said a week ago that he was glad the Longhorns didn’t play last Saturday, hoping that a week off would help them get some of their key contributors healthy.

It appears Sarkisian got his wish.

“I don’t foresee any setbacks there,” Sarkisian said.

Wingo left the Longhorns’ game against Vanderbilt with a thumb injury. Sarkisian said he didn’t anticipate that Wingo would miss time, but also didn’t believe Wingo would be 100% for Saturday’s game against Georgia. In his last two games, Wingo has 273 receiving yards and a touchdown on just seven receptions. He opened Texas’ game against Vanderbilt with a 75-yard touchdown.

Taaffe, an All-American last season, has not played since Oct. 18 with a broken thumb. McDonald left the Vanderbilt game with a concussion.

Texas’ pass defense has struggled with Taaffe out. Mississippi State passed for 382 yards and five touchdowns Oct. 25 against the Longhorns, then Vanderbilt QB Diego Pavia lit the Longhorns up for 365 yards and three touchdowns a week later.

Taaffe said he visited with Texas’ team doctor before speaking to the media on Monday.

“He said, ‘Go cut it loose, I got full faith in you,'” Taaffe said.Â
