The victim, identified by the sheriff’s office as Victor Gonzalez, called 911 at about 4:12 p.m. Sunday to report that he had been robbed at gunpoint in Harris County.

Authorities said Gonzalez remained on the phone with dispatchers, providing directions as he followed the suspects’ vehicle.

According to investigators, Gonzalez had arranged to meet a suspect to sell property. During the transaction, detectives believe he was robbed at gunpoint. The suspects then fled in a vehicle, and Gonzalez followed them while relaying their direction of travel to dispatchers.

During the call, Gonzalez reported that the suspects’ vehicle had “crashed” before telling dispatchers he had been shot, authorities said.

Neighbors told ABC13 they saw a man being pulled from a vehicle by bystanders, who attempted CPR before emergency crews arrived. Gonzalez could not be saved.

Harris County Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives and crime scene investigators responded to the scene and conducted a preliminary investigation.

A male in his late teens was detained Sunday for questioning. However, investigators said Monday that no one had been arrested and no charges had been filed.

Gonzalez’s family was reached by ABC13 but declined to comment.
