Plans to revive the Houston Astrodome are making promising steps forward after a request for information by the Astrodome Conservancy elicited a strong response from developers. According to the non-profit, more than 200 responses have been received, including dozens of developers.
We reported on Gensler’s proposal for the Astrodome’s overhaul in November 2024. The plans call for the erection of four new smaller structures inside the stadium. An arching internal pedestrian boulevard comparable to the New York High Line then interjects itself as an elevated connector to the adjoining NRG Stadium and NRG Center venues.

“The Astrodome is a significant public asset with substantial public support for its reuse,” the conservancy said in the RFI. “Vision: Astrodome is intended to advance an adaptive reuse strategy that preserves the Astrodome’s architectural and cultural significance while evaluating its potential for year-round activation. The vision emphasizes flexible, multi-use programming, public access, a mixed-use concept, and compatibility with Reliant Park operations.”
Due to the large volume of responses, the deadline to respond to the RFI has been extended to September 25th, beyond its original September 8th date.
