HOUSTON – Officials confirmed Monday that there is no fire at Bellaire High School, despite a social media post showing an AI-generated image of the campus engulfed in flames.
The Bellaire Fire Department responded earlier to a commercial fire alarm at the school. Units including Engine 33, Medic 42, Commander 13, Chief 11, and Chief 15 were dispatched.
Upon arrival, crews found no visible smoke or fire. A brief investigation inside revealed a small amount of smoke near a locker area, traced to a refrigerant leak in the HVAC system.
“An HISD HVAC technician confirmed the issue as a refrigerant leak,” said Bellaire Fire Department officials. The Houston Fire Department Hazmat Team assisted and determined the area was not hazardous but advised it remain vacant until repairs were completed.
All students and staff remained safe throughout the incident. The Houston Independent School District was kept informed, and the scene was turned over to HISD maintenance personnel once the situation was resolved.
Bellaire police and fire department urged the public not to share misinformation and confirmed that the viral AI-generated image was entirely fake.
“We appreciate everyone’s concern and ask that you help stop the spread of misinformation by sharing this official update,” the police department said.
