HOUSTON – A body was found Wednesday during the search for a 74-year-old man who disappeared while looking for a part from a crashed remote-controlled aircraft in northwest Harris County.
According to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, a person believed to be the missing man was found deceased in the wooded area near the 11100 block of Katy Hockley.
“Our detectives are on scene,” Gonzalez said. “Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”
The identification of the person found has not been confirmed.
The missing man was identified by Texas EquuSearch as Ronald Nowak. He had been missing for more than 24 hours before the discovery.
According to Gonzalez, Nowak was operating a remote-controlled aircraft with another man in the wooded area when the aircraft went down. The men found the downed aircraft, which EquuSearch described as a model airplane, but Nowak went back into the wooded area to look for a missing part and never returned.
EquuSearch said Nowak was last seen at the Northwest Houston R/C Club wearing dark-colored shorts, a light gray T-shirt, a light cream-colored cap with a dark blue rim and light-colored tennis shoes.
Harris County deputies and Texas EquuSearch volunteers searched the area Tuesday until around 9 p.m. The search resumed Wednesday and included detectives, EquuSearch volunteers and members of the Precinct 5 Constable’s Office.
Authorities have not released additional information about the circumstances surrounding the death.
