SAN ANTONIO – Opportunity Home and Journeyman Development Group are partnering on the Summit at Crownridge project, which will be built on a hill near the Rim and La Cantera area.
The $63 million project will include 299 units. About half will be designated as affordable workforce housing.
“On this side of town, there were only three units, I believe, that we found that were workforce housing,” said Tim Alcott, executive vice president of development and general counsel for Opportunity Home.
The affordable units will not be limited to efficiency apartments.
“It’s not just restricted to the efficiency units,” said Nick LaDuca, project manager for Journeyman Group.
Thirty units will be set aside for families making less than $60,000 a year, while another 120 units will be available to families making less than $80,000.
“As we bring economic opportunities to our residents, we need to make sure they have a place to call home that’s close to where they work and where they go to school,” said District 8 Councilwoman Ivalis.
The development is planned to include a clubhouse, dog park and infinity pool, with views of downtown San Antonio. Opportunity Home has about 10 projects closer to downtown.
Some people nationally have raised concerns that affordable housing could lower nearby property values. Opportunity Home says combining workforce housing with market-rate units in the same development helps address those concerns.
“I’m referring to national studies that have generally been about workforce housing,” said Alcott.
Developers expect to begin opening units about a year from now.
If you would like an affordable unit when this is complete, they’re going to be listed online, and you will be able to find them on Apartment Locator, just like any other apartment unit.
