SIKESTON, Mo. (Heartland News) – A seminar is bringing together law enforcement in southeast Missouri and Austin, Texas.
September 16 was the first day of the 2026 SEMO Major Case Squad Homicide Seminar at Three Rivers College in Sikeston.
Austin, Texas, cold-case detective Dan Jackson addressed a roomful of officers at the conference.
Jackson spoke about his work identifying serial killer Robert Brashers as the prime and only suspect in the 1991 Yogurt Shop Murders. Investigators drew national attention to Brashers in 2018 when they identified him as the killer of Sherri and Megan Scherer in 1998.
Jackson says he stays in contact with members of the Scherer team as the hunt for other cold cases tied to Brashers continues.
“I think it’s great to show what multi-agency cooperation can do. And also present to these guys who may not know this case at all, the trials and tribulations. The things we did right, and we definitely got some things wrong,” Jackson said. “But maybe they can help reopen some of their cases when they go, ‘Oh, I didn’t think about that.’ Or, ‘this Brashers guy sounds like a case maybe I’ve got.’”
The conference continues Thursday, Sept. 17.
