If you want to see Michelle Obama next month in Fort Worth, it’ll cost you.
Tickets for the National Juneteenth Museum’s “A Conversation with Michelle Obama” start at $300, according to ticketing information obtained by The Dallas Morning News. “Premium seating” is on sale for $750 and “Preferred seating” is available for $500.
In addition to event admission, the tickets offer a one-year inaugural museum membership and a copy of Obama’s book The Look. The Preferred ticket category includes these perks, but offers a preferred seating location and complimentary admission to the museum’s opening exhibition and artist talk. The Premium tier adds a private early access to the completed museum ahead of its public opening along with everything previously mentioned.
There was an early ticket sale offered to members of the museum’s mailing list, but sales opened for the general public at 6 p.m. Wednesday and followed the same pricing structure. You can buy tickets here, while supplies last.
The National Juneteenth Museum did not respond to The News’ request for more ticketing information.
The starting price of $300 was met with disappointment by some commenters on Reddit, who said they could not afford to attend. Others commented that the ticket prices could be a way for the museum to raise funds.
The Oct. 7 event with the former first lady is scheduled to last two hours and is part of a wider celebration for Opal Lee‘s 100th birthday. The “grandmother of Juneteenth” is being honored with several events in her hometown, including a ceremony to mark the start of construction on the permament National Juneteenth Museum site in Historic Southside Fort Worth.
The talk with Obama will take place downtown at the Fort Worth Convention Center and will be moderated by Matrice Ellis-Kirk, the chair-elect of the Communities Foundation of Texas and CEO of the Ellis Kirk Group. The event is presented by the museum’s Uniting Voices Speaker Series.
