Tis the season, and I’m not talking about the holidays. That’s right, flu season is rearing its ugly head for West Texans. The state is encouraging everyone to either get your latest flu shot, or at the very least, spot the symptoms of flu.
With millions of people all traveling and interacting with each other during this time of year and the colder weather, the risk of spreading contagious viruses is higher than ever throughout the year.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the flu was responsible for over 600,000 hospitalizations in the U.S. last year. That’s roughly $131 billion in average economic cost—ouch.
Flu Symptoms to Look Out For
In Lubbock or the rest of West Texas, it’s important to keep an eye out for common flu symptoms, according to the U.S. Department of State Health Services:

While vaccinations are probably your best bet when it comes to avoiding the flu, there are other things you can do at home to limit your chances of contracting or spreading this virus.
Because the flu can be spread through droplets in the air after an infected person speaks or coughs, you should always cover your mouth when you sneeze or cough and wash your hands often throughout the day.
Also, you should always stay home when sick. This way you can take time to recover while limiting the risk of spreading your virus to your co-workers.

Local West Texas Deer Hunting Photos
These are photos from our personal cameras and deer stand cameras, revealing the action that takes place day and night. So it is true that deer feed in the middle of the night or the middle of the day, and they only look up when they hear something. Deer are like a 3-year-old child at a toy store…curious.
