After 13 years with 3NEWS, Chief Meteorologist Alan Holt is leaving the Coastal Bend to join News Center Maine in Portland, marking a new chapter in his career.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — After 13 years of keeping South Texas informed and safe, 3NEWS Chief Meteorologist Alan Holt is saying farewell to the Coastal Bend. Alan will soon join our TEGNA sister station, News Center Maine (WCSH), in Portland, Maine.

Alan has been part of the 3NEWS family since 2012. A steady, trusted voice through every kind of weather South Texas can bring, Alan’s calm and clear guidance has made him one of the most recognizable and respected figures in our community and in our newsroom.

Whether warning viewers to take cover or celebrating a “sunny delight,” Alan has always brought his warmth, humor, and deep care for the people of the Coastal Bend to every forecast. Beyond the weather center, he’s given his time to countless nonprofit events, fundraisers, and community causes – always showing up with the same enthusiasm and heart he brings to his on-air work.

“I’ve grown into my adult life here, both personally and professionally,” Holt said. “I’ve celebrated milestones that will forever tie me to the Coastal Bend – covering Hurricane Harvey, the snow that followed that December, getting married, and welcoming our baby girl into the world.”

3NEWS News Director Jonathan Munson, who has worked alongside Alan for 13 years, reflected on what his colleague means to the newsroom and the community.

“Alan and I started working at 3NEWS just weeks apart. He’s been part of the heart of this newsroom ever since and I’m so glad to say I got to grow alongside him for all these years,” Munson said. “He’s been a trusted source of information, a mentor to so many, and a true friend. As a Corpus Christi native, I can say he’s left a mark on this community that will last well beyond his time on the air.”

3NEWS President and General Manager Rebecca Cantu shared that while Alan’s departure is bittersweet, his decision reflects the same values that have always guided him.

“Alan’s deep ties to the Coastal Bend and his dedication to serving this community have been extraordinary,” Cantu said. “We understand the strong pull of family and the chance to be closer to loved ones in the Northeast. Though we’ll miss Alan’s leadership and presence in our newsroom, we’re proud to see him take this next step within the TEGNA family.”

Born and raised in San Antonio, Alan earned his bachelor’s degree in Communication from the University of Texas at San Antonio, and a master’s degree in Geosciences (Broadcast Meteorology) from Mississippi State University, where he proudly played snare drum in The Famous Maroon Band. Before returning home to Texas, Alan worked in Wyoming at KTWO, earning recognition from the Wyoming Association of Broadcasters as one of the state’s best meteorologists. He also holds the National Weather Association Seal of Approval, a mark of excellence in both science and communication.

Alan’s final day on air at 3NEWS will be Friday, Dec. 5. Viewers can continue following his journey as he joins News Center Maine in late December.

Please join all of us at 3NEWS in congratulating Alan on this exciting new chapter, and in thanking him for 13 unforgettable years of service, leadership, and heart in the Coastal Bend.
