But that hasn’t stopped other chains such as McDonald’s and Applebee’s from encouraging customers to celebrate with discounted burgers Sept. 18.
Here are some Houston-area deals to check out Friday. (Spoiler: You need an app for a lot of these.)
There’s an $8.99 burger-and-fries deal. It’s normally around $12 to $14, according to the online menu.
Through Sept. 18, Texas DQ locations are offering, to customers with the DQ app only, a free Hungr-Buster to customers using the DQ app with a purchase of $1 or more.
“DQ restaurants in Texas have been serving up the iconic Hungr-Buster for the last 50 years,” said Lou Romanus, CEO of the Texas Dairy Queen Operators’ Council in a news release. “This National Cheeseburger Day, we’re celebrating this longtime menu staple by treating our DQ fans to a Hungr-Buster with cheese on the house.”
McDonald’s app users can get a free double cheeseburger when they spend at least $1. The fast food chain shared the announcement with People, saying: “Since burgers are kind of our thing, we’d love for fans to come in and grab their favorite McDonald’s drink, snack or meal and add a Double Cheeseburger to celebrate the holiday with us!”
All five OMG! Burger locations in the Houston area will be offering the chain’s signature burger for $5. For every five cheeseburgers sold across all the chain’s locations, OMG! Burger will donate one cheeseburger to people experiencing homelessness in partnership with SEARCH Homelessness Services.
For $13 Friday, you can get a smash burger, fries, a drink and a personalized Pizookie, the chain’s signature huge cookie baked in a pan topped with ice cream. Throw in an extra $4 and you can upgrade the regular Pizookie to a “Spooky Pizookie.”
Participating locations will be selling double cheeseburgers for $1.99.
