SPRING, Texas – A teenage boy was taken to a hospital in critical condition Friday after being struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross the HOV lane on the North Freeway, according to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.
Two 16-year-old boys ran across the freeway in the Louetta and Cypresswood area and successfully made it across the main lanes, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. However, one was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross the HOV lane.
The driver stayed at the scene until emergency crews arrived. EMS transported the injured teen to a hospital in critical condition.
The incident caused multiple lane closures on the southbound, inbound Diamond Lane of Interstate 45 North Freeway, just after Louetta Road, according to Gonzalez.
Drivers were urged to avoid the area and consider alternate routes while first responders worked at the scene.
