LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Several Lubbock ISD students saw firsthand what a day in the life looks like for health professionals Monday.
Seventh and eighth graders from Atkins, McCool Academy and Evans Middle School spent the afternoon at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center as “Docs for a Day.”
The students diagnosed simulated patients and performed ultrasounds on medical students during the hands-on event.
The program aims to give young people a fun and interactive way to learn more about the field of medicine and peak their interest in a health care profession.
“I think it’s a huge opportunity and a huge need in our community for nurses and doctors, and so it’s just a great exposure to them to see the different fields,” Julie Williams said.
Williams said even if the students do not go into the medical field, she hopes they will take away new ways to problem solve and think to guide them in whatever career path they follow.
