Several citizens outlined their plans to complete property clean-up during the Aug. 24 Fort Worth Building Standards Commission meeting.

The commission unanimously granted owner Sylvester Washington — responsible for two properties called before it — 60 days to fix problems at 3214 Prospect Ave. and 90 days to clear up violations at 3218 Prospect Ave.

“What’s tough on me is that I have two properties,” Washington told the commission. “I’m 70 years old. I’m trying the best I can to get everything done.”

After a brief discussion between Washington and two commissioners during his second case, Washington asked for 90 days for the second property given that the two citations were running concurrently. Commissioners reminded Washington he can seek an extension later if needed.

The commission unanimously voted to grant two other citizens more than 30 days to correct city code violations after they provided explanations of the scope of work and plans to correct the problems.

Carl Cole, owner of 9600 Santa Paula Drive, said he lived on the property and has been hauling away trash and other items for the past two years since his son was incarcerated. The commissioners unanimously voted to give Cole 90 days to clear the violations and pay a civil penalty of $4,400.

A man who said he was heir to properties at 4321 H Ave. and 4301 H Ave. asked for 90 days to fix violations while he goes through the legal process to deal with an unauthorized occupant.

Another man, who commissioners referred to as a lien holder, said he has been on the property for six years. He said he has paid taxes and been cleaning the properties. He also asked for 90 days to abate the nuisance. The commission voted unanimously to grant 90 days and did not issue a civil penalty.

HS-26-83: 2309 Primrose Ave.
HS-26-98: 4104 Eastland St.
HS-26-106: 2770 Belzise Terrace
