EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — An Animal Protection officer with the City’s Animal Services Department got some unexpected help when a dog in need of rescue jumped into a police car.

Last week, Animal Protection Officer Cobo teamed up with the El Paso Police to help a dog, who found himself in an unsafe situation and needed to be removed safely from the area.

While police officers were trying to catch the dog named Archer, he decided to make things easier and just jumped into one of the police cars, Animal Services said.

Officer Cobo then responded to help Archer get to somewhere safe, and once he was secured, Archer was scanned for a microchip.

Luckily, he had a microchip and because his information was registered, Animal Services were able to identify his owner and get in touch with his family.

Before long, the dog and family were reunited.

“We’re grateful for our continued partnership with the El Paso Police Department and for Officer Cobo’s help in getting this pup safely out of harm’s way and back home,” Animal Services said.

This was one of 670 calls Animal Protection officers were called out for this past week.

“Archer’s story is just more proof that microchips work. Keeping your pet’s microchip information up to date can make all the difference when they unexpectedly find themselves away from home,” Animal Services said.

Animal Services offers free microchipping. You can click here to find an upcoming event.
