AUSTN – Texas Department of Public Safety personnel used less-lethal munitions and arrested one person Sunday evening after a demonstration near Anderson Square and Research Boulevard.
According to a DPS press release, Troopers responded to the demonstration and, “after repeated orders to disperse,” took less-lethal action by “deploying pepper ball bursts and pepper ball projectiles to ensure officer safety and maintain order.”
DPS said one person was arrested: Kevin Howard Davis, 60, on a charge of obstructing a highway or other passageway, which DPS described as a state jail felony.
DPS said it does not discuss operational specifics and that it collaborates with local, state, and federal law enforcement partners “to ensure the safety of our citizens and state, as well as to protect individuals exercising their constitutional rights to assembly and free speech.”
For information about any other possible arrests, DPS referred questions to the Austin Police Department.
“Texas is a law-and-order state, and the department has zero tolerance for individuals who disrupt public order or endanger law enforcement officers,” DPS said.
