Arlington police are investigating after a pedestrian was killed while crossing Interstate 30 on Sunday night.
According to a news release from the Arlington Police Department, a 32-year-old man was crossing I-30 from south to north when he was hit by a Chevrolet Malibu that was traveling in a westbound lane.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the news release.
It is unclear why he was crossing the highway. He will be identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The driver of the Malibu stayed at the scene after police arrived and cooperated with the investigation. No criminal charges have been filed at this time, according to police.
Westbound traffic was diverted to the Center Street exit for about three hours while police investigated the collision.
“The Arlington Police Department would like to remind the public that pedestrians should never enter highway lanes. Due to the speeds vehicles are traveling and the distance they require to brake, attempting to cross a highway is extremely dangerous and can lead to a catastrophic collision,” police said in the release. “Pedestrians needing to get from one side of a highway to the other should use designated crossings and sidewalks along overpasses and underpasses.”
