After the game, Commanders coach Dan Quinn confirmed Daniels suffered a dislocated elbow but X-rays showed no fracture. He’ll undergo further testing this week.
Daniels stayed down on the turf after the first half concluded. He was tended to by the Commanders’ training staff for a brief moment before he was carted off the field during the break. Daniels had an aircast over his left arm and a towel over his head when he was carted off the field.
Fox Sports replayed the Daniels injury sequence on its broadcast, prompting an “Oh, s—” reaction from analyst Tom Brady. Brady excused himself on the broadcast as the replay continued in slow motion.
Daniels has suffered a serious elbow injury in the past. Last season, the quarterback suffered a dislocated left elbow in a Week 9 game against the Seattle Seahawks. He returned against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 14 but reinjured the elbow in that matchup.
Backup Marcus Mariota stepped in at quarterback for the Commanders in the second half.
When asked to share his thoughts on Daniels’ injury, Cowboys receiver CeeDee Lamb said he was unaware of the sequence when it happened since he was heading to the locker room. Lamb said he hopes Daniels can return to the field soon.
“I don’t really like for people to get hurt,” Lamb said. “So prayers to him and his family, and I hope he has a speedy recovery.”
