Special Olympics Texas and chapters nationwide just hosted the Unified Fore Joy ProAm.
The collaborative fundraising event, held in partnership with Topgolf, is considered the largest day of unified golf in the world.
It brings Special Olympics athletes together with local companies, community organizations, law enforcement and other supporters for a day of golf and inclusion.
Nine events were held across Texas.
The San Antonio event took place Friday and included 27 athletes and 12 companies.
Chad Eason, executive director of the South Region for Special Olympics Texas, said this event is a very meaningful one.
“That’s a huge part of getting out here and unifying our athletes alongside our community members that are in those businesses day in and day out, where our athletes have those opportunities to become employed, working alongside those folks,” Eason said. “That’s the biggest piece. So, it’s huge to have the unified event going on, having those businesses around San Antonio come be a part of this.”
Money raised through this event supports local Special Olympics athletes and programs.
