If there’s one thing El Pasoans know, it’s their local restaurants. We know where to get our favorite tacos, we know which spots are worth the drive, and we DEFINITELY know what El Cometa looks like.
Or do we?
One hilarious Instagram video decided to give the famous El Paso establishment a little makeover, and let’s just say this version of El Cometa looks a whole lot different than the one we’re used to.
El Pasoans are either playing along or setting the record straight, and the comment section might be even funnier than the video itself.
Colorado’s Casa Bonita Gets an El Paso Makeover
The Instagram video shows Casa Bonita, the famous Mexican restaurant in Colorado, but presents it as El Cometa in El Paso.
Now, anyone familiar with Casa Bonita knows this isn’t your average Mexican restaurant. The place is famous for its elaborate atmosphere, complete with waterfalls, cliff divers, and plenty of over-the-top attractions.
It’s quite the upgrade from the El Cometa we know and love!
Of course, the video was meant to be a joke, but that didn’t stop some people from jumping into the comments to make sure everyone knew this was NOT El Paso.
El Pasoans Had the Best Reactions to the El Cometa Video
Some people immediately recognized Casa Bonita and weren’t about to let the video fool anyone.
“Bro this is not El cometa in El Paso” one commenter wrote.
Another made sure to identify the actual restaurant, writing, “That’s Casa Bonita in Denver, Colorado- payasos.”
But the people who understood the assignment? They took the joke and ran with it.
“Yup right off Gateway West. Youll see it from freeway lol”
And my personal favorite:
“Pro Tip: Make sure to take pictures with the macaws when you visit El Cometa in El Paso.”
THE MACAWS!
Now I’m just imagining someone visiting El Paso for the first time, heading to El Cometa, and wondering where the waterfalls and exotic birds are.
El Cometa Has Never Looked Quite Like This
Listen, El Cometa doesn’t need cliff divers, waterfalls, or macaws to be an iconic El Paso establishment. The food speaks for itself!
But I have to appreciate the people who saw this video and decided to keep the joke going rather than spoil the fun.
And to whoever is planning their first trip to El Paso after seeing this video, just know that the El Cometa experience might be a little different than what you’re expecting.
You can still get some great flautas, just don’t expect a cliff diver to deliver them!
