Houston’s relentless September heat is finally showing signs of a break, but Houstonians shouldn’t break out the sweaters just yet…but maybe soon?
A weak front is expected to push into Southeast Texas Wednesday or Thursday, bringing drier air and a modest dip in temperatures after days of mid-to-upper-90s heat, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Houston-Galveston office.
“A trough sweeping through the eastern half of the country will push in a backdoor frontal boundary (a front moving in from the northeast) late Wednesday/early Thursday,” Houston forecasters wrote in their outlook. “Drier air filters in behind this front that lasts going into the early part of the weekend, so low temperatures for some of you (mainly northern areas) will feature the upper 60s/low 70s once again.”

Moisture and humidity are expected to return on Sunday, bringing the chance of rain back into the forecast. Looking ahead to early October, a potential real cold front is in the cards, but forecasters warn it’s too early to lock anything in just yet.
“There is still a statistically notable number of members that reflect the below normal temperatures around the first weekend of October,” forecasters wrote. “Now again this doesn’t mean that this WILL happen, but it is within the realistic realm of possibilities for once.”
While meteorologists will continue monitoring the forecast, there is at least some hope for cooler temperatures.
“This is a lot better than the zero percent potential we’ve had over the past five-ish months!” forecasters wrote.
