Today we put one of Chicago’s most recognizable pizza names to the test with Lou Malnati’s frozen pizza for “Mystery Box Monday.” The company ships its Chicago-style pizzas nationwide by flash-freezing handmade pies, giving customers outside Chicago a chance to prepare them at home. Its signature deep-dish pizza features a buttery, pastry-like crust layered with Wisconsin mozzarella, toppings, and chunky vine-ripened tomato sauce, while its sausage version features a distinctive layer of sausage covering the pizza rather than traditional scattered pieces. Lou Malnati’s also offers cheese, pepperoni, spinach, crustless, and thin-crust frozen varieties, giving David plenty to examine before delivering his final verdict.
