ESPN “Around the Horn” legend Woody Paige is publicly calling out U.S. President Donald J. Trump on social media.
President Trump announced last week that he was banning CNN, Politico and MS NOW from the White House press pool. President Trump, 80, referred to the three outlets as “fake news.” Those three outlets have since sued on Monday to regain access.
Fox News and other outlets have joined in on a boycott of President Trump coverage in the wake of the banning.
“Effective today, the TV pool will not be covering events designated as pool coverage of the president,” Bryan Boughton, the Washington bureau chief at Fox News, wrote in a note to television pool members.
“This follows the White House’s position preventing CNN from fulfilling its assigned pool duties,” Boughton wrote. “There will be no replacement pool put in place.”
The five networks later released a statement.
“The public has a vital interest in receiving accurate, independent information about its government. No administration should restrict a news organization because it objects to its reporting.”

The former “Around the Horn” star publicly called out the President of the United States on social media.
“The self-proclaimed Greatest U.S. president in history does not believe in the First Amendment and the Ninth Commandment,” he wrote.
ESPN doesn’t typically get into politics, but that doesn’t stop its current and former star employees from tweeting about things when they feel it’s important.
Paige, a longtime newspaper columnist for the Denver Post, clearly feels that this is an issue worth speaking up about, given his long history in the journalism world.
It’ll be interesting to see if others linked to ESPN do the same.
