A 79-year-old pedestrian was fatally struck by a car Monday night while crossing a major Arlington street, police said in a news release.
Officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of South Collins Street about 8:05 p.m. The woman was trying to cross Collins Street without a crosswalk when the accident occurred, according to the release.
The pedestrian was taken to a hospital for treatment but later died from her injuries. The driver who hit her stayed at the scene and isn’t currently facing any criminal charges, police said.
The woman who died will be publicly identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.
“The Arlington Police Department wants to remind pedestrians that they should always use designated crosswalks or traffic lights when attempting to cross roadways, especially at night when visibility is reduced,” police said in the release.
