A second person has been arrested in the alleged kidnapping of a San Antonio man who was found dead near Calaveras Lake.

Amanda Garza, 40, was arrested Monday morning and charged with aggravated kidnapping with a deadly weapon, a first-degree felony. A judge set her bail at $150,000.

Jaime Adolfo Rodriguez, 37, was found dead Sept. 6 off a private road near the 8000 block of New Sulphur Springs Road, north of the lake. He had been shot in the chest and had suffered lacerations to his head and face and several broken ribs. His death was ruled a homicide.

Investigators traced Rodriguez’s final movements using witness interviews, security footage and location data from a rented Honda he had been driving.

The information led them to a home in the 2100 block of Rivas Street on San Antonio’s West Side, where security footage showed Rodriguez being chased by three armed men and forced into a small white SUV.

Garza is the second person arrested in the case.

The first was Francisco Garza, 39, who was arrested Friday and charged with failing to report a felony involving serious bodily injury or death. He remained in the Bexar County Jail Tuesday in lieu of $10,000 bail.

Francisco told investigators that the armed men went to his home on Rivas Street and threatened him, forcing him to call Rodriguez to the home under the guise of a drug deal. He said he did not report the attack because he was afraid and did not think Rodriguez would be killed.

But a new affidavit supporting Amanda Garza’s arrest says investigators later found footage showing Francisco kicking Rodriguez during the abduction.

According to the affidavit, Rodriguez arrived at the home in the rented Honda around 1:10 a.m. Sept. 5. Security footage showed him walking to the back of the property, then running back out moments later in a white T-shirt and his underwear, followed by men with guns.

The men punched and kicked him, until Rodriguez briefly escaped. One of the men caught up to him and forced him into the back of a white SUV.

A woman got into Rodriguez’s rental car and followed the SUV as it drove away.

On Friday, Bexar County Sheriff’s Office detectives reviewed new footage that showed the men and Francisco kicking Rodriguez, according to the affidavit. One of the men displayed a handgun while Rodriguez was forced into the vehicle.

The footage also showed a woman wearing light-colored shorts and a black tank top, with shoulder-length blonde hair and tattoos on her left arm. Investigators compared the footage with doorbell video from Amanda Garza’s home, which showed her wearing similar clothing and with tattoos on both arms.

The footage also showed Amanda Garza yelling at an unidentified man on Sept. 4 that she had been robbed. On Sept. 6, a vehicle similar to Rodriguez’s rental car was seen parked in her driveway, investigators said.

Investigators also learned that Amanda Garza had been with Rodriguez before his disappearance. A witness told investigators Amanda Garza planned to make a drug “buy” with Rodriguez and another person on Sept. 4, but the deal fell through.
