The gregarious, lighthearted, and athletic, David Leard O’Bannon, 84, found peace on Sept. 19, 2026, in Fort Worth. Funeral Service: 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, 2026 in Independence Chapel at Greenwood Mausoleum, 3210 White Settlement Rd., Fort Worth 76107, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. David O’Bannon was born Nov. 19, 1941, at home in Hamilton County, Texas, a son of Charles Raymond O’Bannon and Lorraine Eden. His family moved to Fort Worth shortly after. He graduated from Arlington Heights High School. He had some college and played baseball for San Angelo State University. During this time, he went to work for Union Pacific Railroad where he worked for the entirety of his career. He grew to love the railroad, and his career became one of the proudest accomplishments of his life. David did not meet a sport that he didn’t like. He loved baseball and football and was a devout follower. He was also passionate about racquetball. When he could no longer play one sport, he searched and found another. Later, he played golf and even had three holes in one. David had a zest for life and loved to travel with his wife of 57 years. He always had a dog and could frequently be found at the dog park. He also loved barbeque, and beer, and went to Angelos at least monthly for his entire life. He is survived by his wife, Judith Lynne O’Bannon; three children, David Brent O’Bannon and wife, Rhonda, and their two children, Tara Elizabeth O’Bannon and Joel Trent O’Bannon and wife, Krista; his two sons, Sawyer Tristen and Lincoln Preslee; his second son, Judd Brodie O’Bannon and wife, Stephanie; his daughter, Keeley Jean Wolfe and husband, Kevin and their two children, Madeline Claire and William Maverick Wolfe. He is also survived by his lifelong companions and best friends, brother, Raymond William O’Bannon; and sister, Ella May Smith, and families. David never met a stranger. He spoke to everyone and befriended all. He laughed every day and smiled often. He will be deeply missed.
