Over nine months after filing for Chapter 11, Fort Worth home builder Village homes emerged from bankruptcy after a federal court approved its reorganization plan.
In 2024, Village home agreed to sell company owned lots and assets, but the company said the buyer failed to close, which led to litigation against the properties. The litigation led to issues selling the properties, causing Village Homes to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Oct. 1, 2025.
“Chapter 11 was not a path we wanted to take, but it became necessary to protect the business and the people who depend on us,” said Michael Dike, co-founder and president of Village Homes in a news release. “We defended the company throughout this process, and the court’s order bears out what we have maintained from the beginning — about the strength of Village Homes, the circumstances that forced us to seek Chapter 11 protection, and our ability to come through it successfully.”
The court ruled that Village Homes can sell its properties, and overruled the objections raised by the proposed buyer, a competitor of the company, finding evidence it intended to prevent Village Homes from reorganizing.
The court found Village Homes’ financial predictions and reorganization plan obtainable. All seven of the company’s secure lenders voted in favor of the reorganization plan.
“When people understood the facts, they understood what was happening and were comfortable moving forward with us,” said Janet Bishop, Village Homes director of sales and marketing in a press release. “We have worked hard to earn the trust of our customers and communities, and the people who work alongside us. To have them hold onto that trust has meant more than we can say.”
Village Homes was founded in Fort Worth 30 years ago, and has built 1,500 homes in the Fort Worth area.
