Houston Restaurant Weeks is over and it looks like it was a big hit with foodies.

It ended two weeks ago, and while we still don’t have the final results, preliminary numbers are suggesting it could be the most successful year yet.

As you may know, the event is all about getting Houstonians great food at great prices in some of our great restaurants and it benefits the Houston Food Bank.

The folks who put on Restaurant Weeks say this year’s donation is on pace to beat last year’s, which was $1.65 million. More restaurants took part this year. A number of them are reporting meal counts that are much higher than last year.

We spoke with Houston Food Bank president and CEO Brian Greene.

“I try to get out and about, and I talked to a lot of restaurants, and they’re all telling me pretty much the same stories, and this has been an extremely successful August for them,” he said. “We are anticipating that it’s gonna be a really well-needed check.”

Restaurant Weeks is the single biggest fundraising event for the Houston Food Bank every year. If this turns out to be the biggest Restaurant Weeks ever, it couldn’t come at a better time. The Houston Food Bank says food insecurity is on the rise here in Texas.
