Although autumn officially began Tuesday, Dallas-Fort Worth’s first fall-like temperatures could still be weeks away.

The National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office said in its Tuesday afternoon forecast that Wednesday’s high is forecast to reach 97 degrees, with a heat index around 101 degrees. A heat advisory warning has not been issued and likely will not be, according to the forecast.

North Texans can expect some cloud coverage Wednesday and a slight breeze, with wind gusts up to 16 mph. Dallas-Fort Worth will also be under an air quality alert Wednesday due to expected high levels of ozone pollution.

Above-normal temperatures are forecast through the rest of the week, but high temperatures should stay below 100 degrees. Dallas-Fort Worth’s high temperatures have been running about 5 to 10 degrees higher than usual for this time of year, according to the weather service.

Dallas-Fort Worth is forecast to see mostly hot, dry weather through Saturday. Some afternoons later in the week could bring an increased fire weather risk due to the low humidity, drought conditions and high temperatures, the weather service said.
