A lifelong resident of Fort Worth, Ben Dyess was born on March 11, 1946. After graduating from Paschal High School in 1964, he earned a BBA in Business Management from Texas Christian University. He went on to become the owner and principal of Ben Dyess & Associates, a real estate appraisal and valuation firm, and spent more than fifty years actively engaged in the Fort Worth real estate community. He was a licensed real estate broker and a lifelong member of the Greater Fort Worth Board of Realtors and the Appraisal Institute. He also belonged to River Crest Country Club and the Steeplechase Club, where he served as past president. Earlier in his life, he proudly served six years in the U.S. Air Force Reserves.
Faith and family were at the heart of Ben’s life. A founding member of Fort Worth Presbyterian Church (PCA), he served faithfully as an Elder and deeply loved his church family and the opportunities he had to serve others. He enjoyed traveling with Gail and good friends, TCU football, skiing, tennis, golf, and scuba diving. Family summer vacations on North Captiva were especially treasured. He always looked forward to his monthly lunches with his Paschal friends. Above all, his greatest joy was time spent with Gail, his girls and sons-in-law, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Ben’s life was marked by a deep and abiding love for the Lord. He walked faithfully with the Lord and sought to live out his faith through service to others. His servant heart was evident in the way he gave of his time, wisdom, encouragement, and friendship. As a strong Christian and faithful mentor, Ben invested in the lives of those around him, always seeking opportunities to guide, encourage, and point others toward Christ. His faith was not simply something he professed; it was something he lived, and his example will continue to be remembered by the many people whose lives he touched.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years, Gail Connell Dyess; his daughters and their husbands, Fontaine and Randy Shannon of Fort Worth, Alason and Clint Curtis of Celina, Texas and Mary Benton and Chris Caughman of Franklin, Tennessee; his grandchildren, Wilson and Eliot Shannon, Connell, Joseph, Eloise, and Oliver Curtis, and Gram, Mary Denley, and Ben Caughman; and his great-grandchildren, Ben and Callen Shannon. Also survived by his sister, Sally Dyess. His family was his greatest joy, and the love he shared with them will continue to be treasured for generations to come.
