September is Kinship Care Month and this morning we are talking about how important it is to support organizations in our community who assist families. April Molina and Cynthia Lopez joined us from SJRC Texas Belong with more.
Kinship Care is incredibly important, because it keeps a child within the family when something happens to their existing family. SJRC is a family first organization, which means they are looking to keep children within the family to avoid extra stress from life changes.
More than 40% of children who are exiting care are taken in by family members, so it’s incredibly important to honor and celebrate these relationships.
SJRC Texas Belong works hard to raise money to help family members care for others without worrying about the financial burden.
The Big Give starts tonight and goes until September 24th at 6PM so it’s important to give back to the community when non-profits need it most.
