Dak Prescott’s achievement of becoming the Cowboys’ all-time leader in passing touchdowns did not go unnoticed by one of the greatest coaches in NFL history.
During the podcast, Belichick, now the head coach at the University of North Carolina, was asked whom he would name the outstanding player of Week 2.
“I’ll go with Dak Prescott,” Belichick responded. “You know, Prescott’s had a tremendous career — maybe underappreciated at times — but he’s been a pillar of that organization for a long time.”
In Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders, Prescott set the Cowboys’ franchise record for passing touchdowns when he connected with CeeDee Lamb on a 24-yard throw in the fourth quarter. With that touchdown, Prescott surpassed Tony Romo’s previous franchise record of 248.
In the Cowboys’ 37-20 victory at AT&T Stadium, Prescott delivered an impressive performance, throwing for 279 yards and completing 26 of 36 passes with four touchdowns.
Prescott faced Belichick three times while he was the head coach of the New England Patriots. The Dallas quarterback won two of those matchups.
“Dak became the all-time touchdown leader for the Cowboys. That’s a pretty big statement there,” Belichick said.
Belichick, who won six Super Bowl rings as the head coach of the Patriots, praised the Cowboys quarterback without hesitation.
“I think you’ve got to recognize what he’s done — not just (on Sunday), but throughout his entire career,” Belichick said. “It’s impressive.”
