Close to 400 organizations are participating in the massive annual fundraising event.

SAN ANTONIO — Just minutes ago this year’s Big Give kicked off. The annual event is a 24-hour online fundraising event that directs donations to participating organization across south Texas. And, close to 400 organizations are expected to benefit from this year’s gigantic give.

According to The Big Give, 397 organizations are on the list this year. Those include nonprofits like animal organizations, youth clubs, crisis shelters and there’s a whole lot more.

This story continues below.

Eric Cooper, the CEO of the San Antonio Food Bank told us, “The Big Give is a community based fundraising activity that community members can donate, knowing that these charities have been vetted.”

The San Antonio Food Bank is just one organization out of hundreds participating in this year’s Big Give. Roy Maas Youth Alternatives is another needing your help fueling their funds.

Jessie Bonnell the HR Manager for Roy Maas Youth Alternatives added, “All the funds that are raised for Roy Maas will directly affect our children and the families in our program as well. And that’s why we’re so passionate about The Big Give, because it gives us the ability to impact kids, to get them to where they can dream again.”

To reach those dreams, funding needs to come first.

Bonnell said, “They go directly back into our facility, back to our kids, and they can provide services from free counseling resources to nursing nutrition programs, as well as housing as well.”

There are many shelves at the warehouse in the San Antonio Food Bank that are empty right now due to extreme need. They should be filled with food, highlighting the need for The Big Give this year.

Cooper told us, “We consume about eight to 12 tractor trailer loads of food every day, and you can see behind me, we could use a few more tractor trailer loads now.”

Through Thursday at 6pm people can donate at The Big Give website online, where they can also browse participating nonprofits and choose how much to give.

Cooper stressed, “Every dollar we take in, we can put out seven meals or 10 pounds of food. So you can help fill our shelves immediately with a donation to the Big Give today.”
