SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — A new documentary film on the life of American artist Patricia Nix, who grew up in West Texas, will debut in Lubbock on Thursday at the Flatland Film Festival.

Several San Angelo residents are featured in the documentary titled “Dream While You’re Awake: The Many Fantasies of Patricia Nix,” including art collectors and former museum director Howard Taylor.

Nix, who was born in Big Spring and lived in Lamesa before moving to New York and Paris, has works in museums across the United States, including the Smithsonian Museum of American Art in Washington, D.C.

“It’s exciting to see that after her long career, where she’s won a lot of awards and honors, she’s been very prolific, produced a lot of art, been in exhibitions, publications, that now to have this documentary dedicated to her is pretty exciting for us,” Laura Huckaby, museum of fine arts curator, said.

Huckaby was interviewed for the documentary but doesn’t know if she’ll appear, adding, “I’ll find out when I see it for the first time, whether my face or my voice is included, but that doesn’t really matter because I think what it just really shows is her deep rootedness in West Texas.”

The documentary will premiere on Thursday, Sept. 24, at Lubbock’s Flatland Film Festival, where Nix will be in attendance and take part in a question-and-answer session.
