The San Antonio Spurs won five championship rings under legendary former head coach Gregg Popovich — but reports say he’s added another one.

TMZ reported on Wednesday that a marriage license filed in Bexar County shows Popovich tied the knot again in a Texas ceremony on September 16. According to TMZ, Popovich is now married to Mary Barth Budenholzer, the ex-wife of former Spurs assistant coach Mike Budenholzer, who worked closely with Popovich for almost two decades. It marks Popovich’s second marriage, and he is now the Spurs President of Basketball Operations after his 2024 stroke led him to step down as head coach.

The 77-year-old was married to Erin Popovich for 41 years, until her death at 67 in 2018. She had been battling a prolonged illness. They had two children — a daughter named Jill and a son, Mickey — as well as grandchildren.

Mike Budenholzer left the Spurs over a decade ago. He worked with Popovich as an assistant coach from 1996 to 2013, spanning four of the team’s five championship runs. Mike, 57, coached the Atlanta Hawks until 2018, then jumped to the Milwaukee Bucks, where he picked up another championship in 2021. The team fired him in 2023, and he went to the Phoenix Suns — who fired him after one season in 2025.

Mike and Mary, 61, divorced in 2016, according to a report from Parade. They had four children together: William Vincent, Savoia Elizabeth “Libby,” Hanna Louise, and John Bent.
