Those flying in and out of one of Texas’ busiest airports will soon no longer have to lug their luggage through a seemingly endless path to the rideshare pickup zone.

That will soon be a reality under the airport’s Journey With AUS program, a multibillion-dollar, near-decade-long overhaul of airport facilities to expand and add another concourse to Texas’ capital city. Beginning in 2027, construction crews will close and demolish the airport’s current Red Garage to extend the Barbara Jordan Terminal and construct the new Arrivals & Depatures Hall, located closer to the rideshare pickup zone.

The post garnered plenty of buzz both on AUS’ social platforms as well as others.

“Yes, bring it closer. It’s a pain to haul luggage across the street, up the elevator, across the parking lot, etc,” @ktperry999 wrote under the post, liked by more than 7,600 users, with @pragnidave adding: “Yes. Traveling to the ride share area while wheeling a luggage with one hand and a stroller with another in 100 degrees is not fun.”

Others argued public transit options should be prioritized alongside rideshare services as part of the change.

“Put public transit front and center! Rideshare should be closer, but get those burnt orange buses running to SoCo, Downtown, UT, Plaza Saltillo / East 6th every 20 mins,” @erictdawson wrote. “We’re a global city and deserve to have world-class system.”

Some shared concerns with the possible congestion that could come with having rideshare offerings closer to the future Arrivals & Departures Hall, as well as requested improved cell signals as part of the change.
