Loop 1604 frontage roads to close at I-10 interchange this weekend for bridge construction

TxDOT announces closures at Loop 1604 and I-10 interchange. (September 25, 2026)

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Drivers traveling along Loop 1604 on the city’s North Side should prepare for weekend delays as construction crews continue work on the Loop 1604 North Expansion Project.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) announced that both the eastbound and westbound Loop 1604 frontage roads will be closed at the Interstate 10 interchange to accommodate bridge construction.

The closure is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, 2026, and is expected to reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 28, 2026, weather permitting. TxDOT confirmed that all direct connector flyover ramps at the Loop 1604 and I-10 interchange will remain open throughout the weekend.

Detours will be in place for drivers navigating the frontage roads:

Eastbound Loop 1604 Frontage Road: Traffic will be routed right onto the eastbound I-10 frontage road, take the U-turn at UTSA Boulevard onto the westbound I-10 frontage road, and keep right to reconnect with the eastbound Loop 1604 frontage road. Drivers can then access the eastbound mainlanes using the first available entrance ramp.

Westbound Loop 1604 Frontage Road: Drivers will be directed right onto the westbound I-10 frontage road, make a U-turn at La Cantera Parkway onto the eastbound I-10 frontage road, and stay right to return to the westbound Loop 1604 frontage road.

TxDOT urges commuters to follow all posted detour signs and allow extra time for travel in the area.
