In 2018, a developer had plans to turn a former rock quarry in Fort Worth into condominiums, apartments, hotels, a convention center and a music venue along a beach with a 100-foot tall Ferris wheel.
A decade later, the city says, the land will instead become a nature park.
At its meeting on Sept. 29, the Fort Worth City Council is set to accept the dedication of Quarry Falls, a roughly 12-acre area of park land near 4800 Decatur Road that has had $1.13 million in improvements installed by the developer, Greystar.
Greystar has installed a quarter mile walking trail, two benches, and a trash can, according to a city document. The company plans to install another 1,300 linear feet of trails and a 40-car parking lot.
Greystar purchased the property in 2024. Developer Ed Casebier of Renaissance Development told the Star-Telegram back in 2018 about the company’s plans to find new life for the abandoned rock quarry.
Casebier and his business partner Tom Blanton, who died in 2014, restored the T&P building in downtown Fort Worth.
The dedication is essentially a donation of the land to the city.
